Sight Words: Learn to Read is a children’s educational app designed to help students practice and master high-frequency sight words. Your child’s privacy is our priority.
What We Collect
Student profile names, practice progress, achievements, custom word decks, and settings are stored on the device using Apple’s built-in data framework (SwiftData). If you have iCloud enabled, this data syncs across your devices through your personal iCloud account — it goes to Apple’s servers under your Apple ID, not ours.
That’s it. We do not collect names beyond the local profile names you create, email addresses, location, contacts, photos, or any other personally identifiable information.
What We Don’t Do
- We do not run any analytics or tracking software
- We do not sell your data
- We do not share your data with third parties
- We do not have servers of our own — we never see your data
- We do not use advertising networks
- We do not contain any social media integration
- We do not link to external websites or services from inside the app
Purchases
The app offers an optional one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase (“Sight Words Pro”) that unlocks additional practice modes, the 3rd–6th grade word decks, custom word decks, unlimited student profiles, detailed analytics, and the full achievement system. There is no subscription. A 7-day free trial of Pro features is available on first launch.
In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment information. Restore Purchases is available from the in-app settings.
The three built-in grade decks (Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade) are permanently free and never gated.
Text-to-Speech
The app uses Apple’s built-in text-to-speech (AVSpeechSynthesizer) to read words aloud so pre-readers can use the app independently. This processing happens entirely on-device — no audio data is sent to any server.
iCloud Sync
iCloud sync is available to everyone, free and Pro alike. If you use it, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your device’s Settings → Apple ID → iCloud.
Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Sight Words is designed for use by children. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):
- We do not collect any personal information from children or adults
- We do not contain any advertising
- We do not link to external websites or services from inside the app
- We do not include any social media integration
The Sight Words Pro in-app purchase (described above) is offered through Apple’s App Store and is subject to Apple’s parental controls and Family Sharing settings. Parents should configure Ask to Buy / parental approval for purchases as appropriate.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the “Last updated” date above will reflect it.
